Florence Skatepark now open to Bikes
>> Monday, June 1, 2009
After an unfair five year ban, Florence City Council unanimously approved a resolution allowing bikes on to the Miller Park Skate Park during its Monday, July 6 meeting.
The rescinding of the bike ban came about after two young bikers appeared before city council earlier this year asking them to reconsider.
After holding discussions with area youth, interested adults and the FPD, as well as researching how other skate parks handled bikes, the Parks and Recreation Committee recommended to the council to allow bikes in the skate park on a six-month trial basis. Bikes would be allowed permanently if there are no significant increases in police or ambulance calls or additional damage to the park itself.
